The LakeWay Public Art Selection Committee, the Madison Arts Commission, Madison Parks, and the Madison LakeWay Partners are seeking community feedback on design proposals for public art for the SkyLine, the first phase of the LakeWay development.

In May, the Madison Lakeway Public Art Selection Ad Hoc Committee selected four finalists to develop design proposals. In June, the finalists gathered in Madison to learn about the site and our community, meet with staff, and to attend a community meet and greet where they presented introductions that included their approaches to public art.

Artist Design Presentations

Join the neighborhood meeting to watch the artists present their design proposals at 5:30pm on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Register to attend online

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the meeting.

If you can't attend the meeting, recordings of the design proposal presentations will be available on the Madison Arts Commission website after October 1, 2026.

Share Your Thoughts

A community survey is open until 2:00pm on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Take the Survey

Your feedback will be shared with the Public Art Selection Committee. The committee is expected to make a recommendation on a winning design at their virtual public meeting on Monday, October 19, 2026.

Members of the public are welcome to register to share comments during that meeting (public comment registration opens October 16, 2026). The committee's recommendation will be reviewed by relevant City of Madison Boards, Committees and Commissions. We anticipate the selected artist or artist team will be announced by the end of the year.

Madison Parks, Madison LakeWay Partners, and the Madison Arts Commission will coordinate to work with the selected artist or artist team to complete any required design updates.

About the Madison LakeWay

The Madison LakeWay Project will create a legacy civic project by providing a vital link between downtown Madison, adjacent neighborhoods, regional trails, and Lake Monona through improved multimodal access, green infrastructure, gathering spaces, and immersive experiences that reinvigorate the shoreline and promote a thriving lake-edge habitat.

Madison LakeWay Partners have named the first phase of the project "The SkyLine." This section encompasses sites along the John Nolen Drive Causeway, offering dynamic opportunities for public art along bicycle and pedestrian trails and viewpoints where people can take in the breathtaking expanse of Lake Monona and the Madison skyline.

About the Madison Arts Commission

The Madison Arts Commission works to encourage artistic activities and performances throughout the city, supporting both emerging and established artists while enhancing the cultural landscape of Madison through public art initiatives.
