Research for a veterans' memorial location began with the Parks Division in 2004 after local vets realized Madison lacked a local veterans memorial in a city park. At the time, a subdivision called Liberty Place on Madison's southeast side was being developed. It was a natural location for the Veterans Memorial Park.

The memorial includes a pergola, seating, a plaza and the flag corp. Solar lights and blue reflective glass is installed in place of running fountain water, which cuts down on maintenance costs and overall environmental impact. A brick walkway is also included. Friends and family of veterans may purchase a personalized brick from the VFW Post 7591.

This 5-acre park also contains bike and walking trails, playground equipment and basketball courts, making the park a peaceful and memorable destination for local Madison residents.
