The Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Skatepark at McPike Park is free and open daily during regular park hours - 4am to 10pm. Lighting is scheduled from dusk until 10pm from April 15 to October 15.

History of the Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Skatepark

First proposed in the Central Park plan in 2010 (now known as McPike Park), and after years of discussions, committee meetings and fundraising, Madison's first skate park officially opened Thursday, September 10, 2015. The Skatepark at McPike Park occupies roughly 20,000 square feet of McPike Park and includes "street' skating elements and two large bowls. Approximately 70% of the skatepark is designed for "street" skating and features stairs, railings, ramps and other obstacles. The remaining 30% of the skatepark is designed for "transition" skating and features two large bowls. The 'Eggplant Bowl' is the deeper of the two and is approximately 9 ft deep at its lowest point. This bowl is designed to represent the original empty swimming pools used by Southern California skateboarders over 40 years ago. The second flow bowl is shallower, with depths ranging from 4 to 7 feet.

Skate Park Rules

Approved by the Board of Park Commissioners June 2015. Please review before visiting the Skatepark at McPike Park. 

  • The Skatepark is unsupervised, and the user assumes all risks in the use of the facility.
  • The Park is open from 8:00am until 10:00pm. No trespassing is permitted when the Skatepark is closed.
  • Only skateboards, in-line skates, and roller skates are allowed. All other uses are prohibited. No motorized devices are allowed inside the skating area.
  • All users must wear proper safety gear.
  • Additional obstacles or other materials (ramps/jumps/trash cans) may not be used in the Skatepark.
  • Users under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent.
  • All events shall have written approval from the Madison Parks Superintendent.
  • No smoking, alcohol, food or drink, or glass containers allowed inside the Skatepark.
  • Amplified sound, animals, littering and graffiti are not permitted.
  • Facility users agree to abide by all rules and regulations applicable to City parks.
