The public art collection at the Madison Public Market celebrates the diverse people, cultures, and ecology of Madison's past, present, and future. The purpose is to create a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally rich environment. The collection includes sculptures, murals, and installations on themes of sustainability, history, place & inclusivity. The public art plan was a collaborative initiative of the Madison Arts Commission (MAC), the Madison Public Market Foundation (MPMF), and other stakeholders.
Public art provided by the City of Madison was made possible by the Municipal Art and Percent for Arts funds with additional financial support from The Hoke Family Foundation and the Madison Community Foundation. The Friends of The Madison Arts Commission and the Madison Public Market Foundation provided additional assistance.
The Madison Arts Commission approved several proposals for public art and the Madison Public Market. You can find proposals in Legistar. The public art program includes more than a dozen artworks, with two left to be installed. See past press releases from October 6, 2025 and April 20, 2026 for more information.
