• District 19 Matters at September 8 Common Council:
  • Item 12 (Legistar 93984) is for an application by Oakwood Lutheran Senior Ministries and affiliates to amend the planned development for its University Woods Campus (Oakwood Village). The application is for building a five-story, 92-unit assisted living building and demolishing several older buildings. The Plan Commission recommended approval at its August 10 meeting.
  • Item 67 (Legistar 94195) is for approval of a contract with TYLin for corridor safety studies including S Whitney Way. The Plan Commission recommended approval at its August 31 meeting.
  • Item 68 (Legistar 94196) is for approval of a contract with SEH for planning, engineering, and public engagement for two streets, including Schroeder Rd. The Plan Commission recommended approval at its August 31 meeting.
  • Item 69 (Legistar 94197) is for approval of a contract with SHE for street intersection safety planning and engineering including the intersection of S Gammon Rd and Tree Ln. The Plan Commission recommended approval at its August 31 meeting.
  • Item 87 (Legistar 94552 – record not available yet) is an introduction without discussion. It is among several introductions bringing forward the previously announced proposal to re-zone old Planned Development Zones (PD's) to current standard residential zones created in 2013. Item 87 deals specifically with the PD's in Wexford Village and Rough Lee Court. It will be discussed at the October 19 Plan Commission meeting and comes to the Common Council on October 20. A personal conflict-of-interest arises for me because I have been a member and officer of the Wexford Village Homes Association board for over 12 years. The Association recently voted to express its opposition to the re-zoning. I abstained from the Association vote and will recuse myself from the votes at the Plan Commission and Common Council.
• Monarchs and More: Owen Conservation Park will host another in Madison Parks “Birds and Nature Adventures" series. Join Sylvia Marek at 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 12.

• Dale Heights Presbyterian Church Neighborhood Meeting: Threshold Sacred Development proposes to redevelop the property at 5501 University Avenue. The existing structures would be demolished, and three new buildings would be constructed. The new buildings would be comprised of 8,000 square feet of space for two churches (Dale Heights Presbyterian and Sah-Lang Korean Church), plus 110 to 120 units of affordable multifamily housing. • Common Council: The Common Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 8, at 6:30 p.m. in hybrid format. Agenda items include appointing Devine Nzegwu as alder for District 1, authorizing the Economic Development Division to administer a Williamson Street Business Stabilization Support Program, and transferring $28,500 from the contingent reserve to the Office of the Independent Monitor.
