Urban Design Approvals
The City has various review processes for the development of private property. For some projects, design review may be required by the Urban Design Commission (UDC). Design review by the UDC is based on project type and/or location, including if a property is in an Urban Design District (UDD) or if a property has a certain zoning designation. The primary ordinance guiding design review is Chapter 33.24.
Generally, the Urban Design Commission (UDC) reviews the following types of projects:
- Developments in Urban Design Districts (UDDs)
- Planned Developments (PDs)
- Residential Building Complexes
- Development within the Downtown Core (DC) and Urban Mixed Use (UMX) Zoning Districts
- Public projects
- Sign exceptions and Comprehensive Design Review (CDR) Packages
To confirm if your property or project requires design review, please call Zoning staff at 608-266-4551 ext. 3 or contact Urban Design Staff.
