We need your help. As we move into winter and enjoy the fun of snow-related activities, we look for your assistance in helping share our important message with the public. The progress at the improved Glenway Golf Park is on schedule and shaping up for a great community asset to open later in 2022.   However, activity in these areas will be extremely problematic to the success of the property and the native plantings. The extensive work includes more than 28,000 prairie plug plantings, prairie plant dormant seeding, new greens complexes, and extensive new turf, which is in a critical infant state.  For more information click here

Events

• Madison International Partners offers citizenship classes on Tuesday evenings from 5pm-6:30pm and on Saturday mornings from 9am-10:30am. Classes are held online via Zoom, and enrollment for both classes is now open. If interested, you can register here.
• Appointments are now open at "walk-up" testing site at Alliant Energy Center. Public Health Madison & Dane County is supporting DHS-contracted private testing provider, Accelerated Labs, to open an additional mass testing clinic in Dane County to help meet the demand for testing with a sustainable solution amid a surge in COVID-19 cases. Announcements

• Removing snow from all Metro bus stops requires a lot of teamwork! Metro receives help from various City of Madison departments in order to clear stops quickly and efficiently. The team does the best they can removing snow from every stop, however some get missed along the way. For fast results, please let the City know when they miss a stop by using the City Report-a-Problem form. This ensures the correct department is notified.
• The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is requiring all passengers and employees to wear face masks while utilizing all forms of public transit, including Metro Transit buses and paratransit vehicles. The federal order has been extended into March 2022.
• The Streets Division has several ways for you to stay informed about snow plow updates:
  • Get Snow Plow Updates informing you of what the Streets Division is doing to fight the current snowfall.
  • Follow the Streets Division on Twitter at Madison Winter.
  • Find the Streets Division on Facebook.
• Are you planning to apply to the 2022 Neighborhood Grant Program? If so, you are required to meet with City staff to discuss your project by January 17, 2022. Grant awards in 2021 were for projects such as a gathering place in Mohican Triangle Park, Darbo Neighborhood Council leadership training and the Junction Ridge Oasis in Junction Ridge Park. • Take action: protect your trees from the gypsy moth. Winter is the time to take action and help control the gypsy moth population in Madison. This moth species is a pest that can defoliate and weaken trees. In addition, while they prefer oak trees, all tree species are susceptible to this bug. You can help your trees by destroying the moth's egg masses, which can hold upwards of 1,000 eggs, so you can make a big difference by destroying them. The masses are fuzzy, brownish patches that are often found on tree trunks or other flat outdoor surfaces like picnic tables, sheds, and so on. There are two ways to destroy egg masses:
  • First, you can scrape them from the surface and place them in a container filled with soapy water. Let them soak in the water for two days and then throw the masses into the trash.
  • Or, you can apply a soybean oil-based product called "golden pest oil" directly to the egg masses to prevent them hatching. You can find golden pest oil at garden centers.

• Streets Division Updates
  • Large item pickup service has increased! Instead of monthly set-out opportunities, you will see many more chances for pickup. In order to get your home on the pickup schedule, you must submit a work order.
  • The Streets Division drop-off sites are now on winter hours. Be sure to check the drop-off site webpage so you know the hours before loading your car.
  • 2022 is here, so be sure you have the current trash and recycling collection calendar. Download your calendar today or call the Streets Division to have one mailed to your home.

JOB DESCRIPTION FROM ALLIED WELLNESS CENTER

Community Health Worker Program Manager: 1.0 FTE

Required Experience

 • Excellent written and verbal communication skills   • Demonstrated success in outreach and partnership development/maintenance  • Team leader skills including effective supervisory experiences

Preferred Experience

 • Meeting facilitation  • Recording program information/data for reporting purposes  • Assessing and adjusting team (individual and collective) performance  • Spanish fluent (verbal and written)  • CHW certified (CHW manager certification) Free Training available.  • Three years of paid experience in a supervisory role.

Education

Minimum Preferred– Bachelor's Degree in health care or related field

Position summary:

The CHW Program Manager is a critical member of the Allied Wellness Center management structure. This person will inspire, organize and model exceptional knowledge and insight about Allied assets including health and wellness priorities. They will lead a team of Community Health Workers and be expected to create and navigate partnerships with representatives from different service sectors. Allied Wellness Center will expect the Program Manager to attend training on supervision and other related skills to ensure professional development and benefit.

Duties/Responsibilities

TEAM LEAD

 • Supervise salaried and non-salaried CHWs (includes clinical and administrative) o Bi-weekly supervision for part- and half-time CHWs o Weekly supervision with full-time CHWS

 • Convene weekly group/team meeting of CHWs

 • Contribute service and leadership to all CHW-related events/activities (e.g. COVID clinics, health fairs, and Allied Fresh food distribution)

 • Collaboratively assess need and plan educational training opportunities for CHWs

OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT

 • Develop outreach plans and materials including goals, timelines and strategies for correction/enhancement

 • Partners with social service and health care sector partners in Allied and the greater Madison community

 • Develop and maintain successful working relationships with representatives from the major health care systems serving Allied residents

 • Contributes to Grant Writing based on an assessment of Community needs and needs of the CHW Program.

 • Develops and oversees community partnerships that support the work of CHWs such as with Volunteer Community Health Professionals or Academic Programs such as The Grow Program or the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.

DOCUMENTATION/REPORTING

 • Collects data from CHWs and collates data into reports

 • Contributes to the design of data collection tools and reports for the Allied Board of Directors and funders

 • Ensures client files are maintained and updated appropriately

Work Schedule

 • 100% FTE, 40 hours per week. 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the Community Health Worker Program.

Salary

 • Salaried position of $60,000 per year. Health care benefits not available at this time.

 • 2 weeks paid vacation as well as major paid holidays. Paid time off between Christmas and New Year.

Training, Development and Employee Wellness

 • We value and prioritize employee wellness and are exploring partnerships to provide wellness opportunities to all of our employees.

 • We will provide CHW Manager Training from Milwaukee AHEC, as well as many other free continuing education/training opportunities.

 • We offer one hour of paid personal time per week.
