Nickel Batteries - How to Identify & Tape

They have "Ni-CD" or "Ni-MH" written on the battery.

These kind of batteries are often used for rechargeable power tools and also cordless landline telephones.

How to Tape

Use clear tape.  Packing tape works best.

Cover the area where the battery would be delivering power to the device. This is called the "contact point."

This area is usually looks like exposed metal.  Cover the exposed metal area with clear tape.

Some nickel batteries have wires leading from the battery to a plastic plug-in. Cover this plastic plug-in with clear tape to prevent the nickel battery from delivering a charge.

Take to Drop-off Site

After you tape them up, take them to a drop-off site or a reputable private battery recycler.
