The City has received reports of potential scammers. Some companies are trying to take advantage of recent storm damage. It's important to make sure repairs are done quickly and by reputable companies.

Construction Noise Complaints

Construction can be noisy. MGO 24.08(3)(f) bans the substantial use of building equipment between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am, Monday - Saturday. On Sunday, no one may use building equipment before 10:00 am or after 7:00 pm. This includes any noise that would disrupt the peace and quality of life of people in the area. Equipment can mean hammers, power saws, compressors, pneumatic tools, etc.

If you feel that there is a violation of the ordinance, please follow these steps:

  1. Contact the Building Inspection Division at 608-266-4551 ext. 4 or by email at binspection@cityofmadison.com.  We will contact the contractor and remind them of the ordinance.
  2. If the noise continues, call the Police Non-Emergency phone at 608-266-4275.

Construction Without Permits

Many construction projects require permits. If you think work is being done without a permit, please contact the Building Inspection Division at 608-266-4551 ext. 4 or by email at binspection@cityofmadison.com.
