Building Inspection plan review and zoning review counters will be open to the public by appointment only.
Building Inspection Services
The Plan Review and Zoning Counters are open by appointment only. For general Building Inspection assistance, please call 608-266-4551 or email binspection@cityofmadison.com.
If you need to drop off a check or application, there is a drop box located at the Doty Street door of the Madison Municipal Building. The drop box can't fit large plans. There is also a drop box in the lower-level lobby of the Madison Municipal Building for plans and checks.
Plan Review Services
The Plan Review and Permit Counter is open by appointment only. Please schedule an appointment for service. We do not serve walk-ins.
Checklists for Common Submittals
If your project needs a site plan, you must schedule an appointment with the Zoning Counter. If Zoning doesn't review your site plan before you apply for a building permit, it may delay the process.
- Accessory building, detached garage, or unheated shed
- Addition - heated
- Addition - unheated: sunroom, 3 season room, enclosed porch
- Deck
- Finished Basement
- Gazebo
- New 1 & 2 Family Homes
- Pergola
- Screen Porch
If your project doesn't fit any of the above categories, please call 608-266-4551 ext. 2 before submitting. Incomplete submittals will cause delays.
Commercial Projects
Submittals must include an application, the plan review fee, and two stamped paper sets of plans. We will not accept or hold incomplete submissions. You can submit complete applications by mail or by making a Permit and Plan Review Counter appointment.
