The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on November 17 to 6:00am on November 18, we received 384 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 56
  • East: 99
  • Midtown: 56
  • North: 62
  • South: 43
  • West: 57
  • Other: 11

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Monday, November 17:

Priority calls only from 11:55am to 10:18pm due to calls for service/resources available/staffing available.

  • 11:20am - South – Crash: Two vehicles were reported racing eastbound on the Beltline near Fish Hatchery Rd. One of the vehicles collided with an uninvolved vehicle pushing it up under a semi. That vehicle flipped over the median, landing on the westbound side on fire. The driver of that vehicle was able to escape with non-life threatening injuries. Several subjects from one of the vehicles observed racing were observed fleeing from the scene and getting into another vehicle, which left the scene. Several other vehicles involved/damaged. Investigation continuing. 
  • 11:38am - East – Fatality Crash:  A 44-year-old male subject/driver fled from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office when they attempted a traffic stop.  The driver was observed driving erratically northbound on 51 and lost control near Pflaum Rd. The driver/vehicle crashed into a tree and started on fire. Attempts were made to extinguish the fire and rescue the driver, but these attempts were not successful. Medical Examiner’s office notified.
  • 1:33pm - East – Weapons Offense: A vehicle pulled into a business parking lot occupied by a female driver and a male passenger. The male subject got out of the vehicle and urinated in the parking lot. An employee confronted the male subject. The male subject put on a ski mask, pulled out a handgun, and pointed it at the employee. A verbal exchange occurred and the two subjects/vehicle left the lot. Investigation continuing.
  • 1:48pm - Midtown – Check Person: Officers responded to check the welfare of a subject yelling at people and walking into traffic on Regent St. The subject was contacted, taken into protective custody and transported to a local hospital where local mental health resources were plugged in. An emergency detention was sought/approved. Transport to Winnebago pending. 
  • 2:42pm - North – Homicide: Officers responded to a report of a subject shot in a vehicle. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but were not successful.  A 35-year-old male suspect was identified, located, and arrested. Incident Report released on MPD’s website has further details.

Tuesday, November 18:

  • 1:11am - East – Missing Adult: A 57-year-old male subject was reported as missing. Attempt to locate aired. Areas checked. The subject was listed as missing in the appropriate databases.
  • 2:19am - West – Check Person: Officers responded to a report of a subject causing themselves self-harm. The subject was contacted and transported to a local hospital. Local mental health resources plugged in. Final outcome pending.
