Trash Pick-Up This Week, Banning the Sale of Cats and Dogs in Retail Pet Stores, and More Updates

HI Everyone,

As we get ready for the Thanksgiving holiday, please check to see when trash pick-up is scheduled for your address this week. For example, Thursday is the day my street gets serviced for trash (and everry other week recycling), but this week it will be on Wednesday.

Updates and Notices 

Common Council Meeting Alert: Next week's Common Council meeting will be conducted exclusively online, allowing everyone to participate from the comfort of their own space. Your engagement is crucial. If you would like to join the meeting as an observer, please visit https://www.cityofmadison.com/watchmeetings 

City Offices are closed on November 27 and 28. Administrative offices are closed on November 27 and 28, 2025 for Thanksgiving and Ho-Chunk Day. Emergency services will be open; for emergencies, please call 911. Use Report a Problem for non-emergencies. 

Boards, Commissions, and Committee Meetings

  • Common Council: The Common Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 25, at 6:30 p.m. in VIRTUAL FORMAT. The agenda includes an item for which I'm the lead sponsor, and that Legistar 90423 prohibiting the sale of cats or dogs in retail pet stores. The vast majority of pets sold at retail pet stores come from large commercial breeding operations, sometimes referred to as "puppy mills." The ordinance was unaminously recommended for approval by the Board of Health and will not affect a consumer’s ability to obtain a dog or cat of his or her choice directly from a shelter, rescue organization, or a breeder.

Public Information Meetings (PIMs) 

  • Public Cannonball Path - Phase 6, Monday, November 24: The public is invited to attend a Virtual Public Information Meeting scheduled for Monday, November 24th at 6pm to learn more about the proposed design and anticipated timelines, as well as an opportunity to share feedback and ask questions of the project team. Registration prior is required.

  • Thanksgiving & Ho-Chunk Day Service: Metro will operate a Sunday schedule on Thursday, November 27, and a Saturday schedule on Friday, November 28. [posted November 17, 2025]

Events 

  • Green Friday - Cleanup at Garner Park, Friday, November 28: Celebrate Green Friday with Madison Parks! Skip the shopping and join us at Garner Park for a relaxed, family-friendly morning focused on giving back to nature. Volunteers will help pick up litter, tidy common areas, and enjoy time outdoors while making a positive impact on their community.
