Water quality testing is performed Memorial Day through Labor Day by Public Health Madison & Dane County. If the water quality is not suitable for swimming, a scheduled lifeguard will not be on duty. Restrooms at beach locations are open only when a lifeguard is on duty. See RESTROOMS to view other open locations.

- Only US Coast Guard-approved lifejackets are allowed.
- Alcohol is allowed at certain beaches, see municipal codes for further details.
- Obey lifeguard instructions at all times. Violation of any of the beach rules shall result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from the beach facility.
- Children under 5 years of age must be actively supervised (watching your child at all times and can provide immediate assistance) by a caregiver 16 years of age or over.
- Toys are allowed but the use of toys may be restricted for the safety of patrons.
- The City of Madison is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
- Beaches may be closed due to inclement weather and or poor water quality.
- Boats are not allowed in the swim area. The swim area is defined by the outer buoys.
- Swimmers are not allowed to swim outside of the swim area. If they wish to swim outside of the swim area they must start outside of the swim area.
- Fishing is not allowed in the swim area.
- Patrons are allowed to swim at the beach before and after the beach is open. 15 minutes prior to the end of the day lifeguards will inform patrons that the beach and beach house will be closing.
