Safe Streets Madison Public Input Opportunities

A number of projects proposed for improvements as part of the Safe Streets Madison program have opportunities for public involvement. These include opportunities to take surveys, attend public information meetings and provide input to the Transportation Commission. More information on individual projects is below.

Midvale Blvd (University Ave to Mineral Point Rd) Safe Streets Improvements

This section of Midvale Blvd has been identified for review with the goal of improving overall traffic safety and improving walking and biking connections. To gather more information and discuss potential improvements, Traffic Engineering will hold a virtual meeting via Zoom on Wednesday, May 3 at 6 PM.

Baldwin St (N & S) Safe Streets Improvements

Baldwin Street has been identified for review with the goal of improving overall traffic safety and improving walking and biking connections. To gather more information and discuss potential improvements, Traffic Engineering will hold a virtual meeting via Zoom on Monday, March 13 at 6 PM.

Eastmorland Neighborhood Safe Streets Improvements

Streets in the Eastmorland Neighborhood have been identified for consideration of safety improvements and improving connections for walking and biking. Streets identifed include Dempsey Rd (Capital City Trail to Milwaukee St), Walter St, and Dawes St. A neighborhood meeting was held on Feb 15 to discuss potential changes and hear more about traffic safety concerns.

Blackhawk at University - Intersection Improvements & Bike Connections

Safety improvements are being considered for the intersection of University Ave at N Blackhawk Ave to eliminate serious/fatal crashes and make it easier for people walking and biking to cross University Ave. Potential changes:

  • Restrict left turns from Blackhawk Ave onto University Ave
    • Left turns from University Ave onto Blackhawk Ave or Joyce Erdman Pl would still be allowed
  • Create a diagonal two-stage crossing with a rapid flashing beacon crossing light for pedestrians and bikes
    • The current crosswalk would be removed
