Locating & Operating The Water Service Box

Plumbers and/or property owners should contact us at least 24-48 hours prior to operating the curb stop at (608) 266-4661. We will mark the box and make sure the stop is working correctly.

Important: Locate and checks are done Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm

Service Boxes and Service Valves

All service boxes and service valves must be located and exercised by Madison Water Utility personnel prior to operation by a property owner, plumber, or other contractor. This can be requested by contacting the utility at (608) 266-4661. Utility personnel will be sent to the site to locate and exercise the curb stop or service valve at no charge, and they will leave the service on or off upon request. 

If the service is left off, there are three options for service restoration:

1. A plumber or contractor should already have the appropriate key; they are then expected to turn the service back on at no charge. 
   1. Customers/Plumbers may also pick up an appropriate key to turn the service on themselves
2. Keys can be picked up and returned at our Operations Center located at 110 S. Paterson St. during normal business hours Monday through Friday 7 am – 3 pm 
   1. The following items must be submitted:
   2. A Key Deposit Form Deposit of $250 for Curb, Burke or Valve Key, payable by Cash or Check Only made payable to Madison Water Utility, refunded to you upon return of key.
3. Customers may have Madison Water Utility personnel return and turn the service back on for a flat fee of $50.00 during normal business hours, after hours available for additional fees.

Failure to follow this policy will result in your liability for damages and repairs.
