South District Blotter

South District update

August 7, 2019 8:57 AM

Greetings:

Each month we receive preliminary crime data from our analysts.  The South District had 4 burglaries reported in July (compared to 11 in 2018 and 15 in 2017).  Additionally, our Theft From Autos were listed at 9 for the month of July (13 for July, 2018).  City-wide we are still experiencing youth stealing cars in a variety of ways.  Youth have been on the prowl searching for cars where owners either leaving them running or where owners have left keys in the car itself. . . unlocked.  Even more troubling is the fact that some car thieves are going into homes through an unlocked door, finding keys near the door and quickly taking the car.  This bold move is quick and sometimes without notice to the owner. Please lock your house doors and shut your garage door at night. Yesterday, there was some great work performed by two Sergeants and many Officers in our District.  A suicidal male, with a weapon was taken into custody without incident.  The Sergeants and Officers coordinated a safe plan to contact and extract the male while keeping him, the community and themselves safe.  This was an intense call, resolved through professional teamwork.  A shout out for the great effort on Lake Point Dr!!!  Finally, our Officers have been moving call to call, in the heat, servicing the community's needs.  When you see Officers out there, please thank them for their professionalism and hard work keeping order in our community.  They are dedicated to keeping everyone safe!  Have a great day.
