Earth Day Challenge, Brush and Yard Waste Collection, and More Updates

posted

Hi Everyone,

Happy Spring!

Yes, it finally feels like spring is here, though surely as I type this I'm aware how quickly that can change. In fact, the weather, according to forecasts, will abruptly turn on Sunday with evening temps falling below freezing. Still, it's nice to be out in the fresh air, to garden, to go to the dog park and not be shivering. I'll take it!

Here's a spring activity worth noting....

Annual Earth Day Challenge

Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day with your neighbors and friends by volunteering to clean up your local park! Join this community-wide volunteer effort to help make a difference. Accept the Earth Day Challenge with Madison Parks! We are seeking 900 volunteers at 60+ parks, located throughout the city to assist with trash pickup, raking, trail clearing, and invasive plant removal. We supply gloves, garbage bags and rakes. Rakes at each park will be based on the number of volunteers registered.

DATE: Saturday, April 25, 2026
TIME: 10am to 12pm
LOCATIONS: Parks throughout the city

Brush and Yard Waste Pick Up

Brush pick up is under way in several D13 neighborhoods. Click here to find your street's set out date. Please note the difference between brush and yard waste. The easy way to remember is that brush goes into a wood chipper and consists primarily of tree branches. Yard waste is everything else; it gets composted, including woody stalks from your garden.

Yard waste collection starts soon. Click here to find out your street's set out date.

Here are the rest of this week's updates:

Wright Human Rights Award annually. The award honors the late Reverend James C. Wright, who served as the Executive Director of the Equal Opportunities Commission from its inception in 1968 until his retirement in 1992. One or more awards will be presented.
