Tuesday's Primary Voting Locations Change for Wards 46, 47, and 48

 

For Feb. 16, the only election on the primary ballot in District 2 will be the race for the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Due to Gates of Heaven being closed for renovations, the City Clerk has arranged for Bethel Lutheran Church to host the Feb. 16 and April 6 elections for Ward 46. Additionally, Wards 47 and 48 will vote at UW Hillel. Many thanks to Bethel and to Hillel for hosting.

Feb. 16 Public Information Meeting on New Restrooms & Shelter at Tenney Beach

 

A neighborhood informational meeting will be held on Feb. 16 at 6pm for the 2021-22 project at Tenney Beach to replace the existing beach house with a new park shelter and restrooms. The building will also include a pump room as part of the Clean Beach system announced in August 2019, a joint project between the City of Madison and Dane County. Please register to attend the meeting at this link.

 

City Engineering has established a project website for the project where you can also subscribe to email updates. The Parks Division also has a website for the project.

 

 

126 Langdon Proposal at Plan Commission on Feb. 22

 

At our Feb. 22 meeting, the Plan Commission will consider Core Spaces' new proposal for the Hub II development at 126 Langdon St. Since an earlier version of the redevelopment was rejected by Plan Commission, Core Spaces has altered the proposal in several ways, including a redesign of the Langdon Street section, two additional delivery parking stalls, and a reduction in bedrooms from 376 to 351. Proposal details and other materials can be found here. Plan Commission will be considering several aspects of the proposal:

1. Final plans for a site previously approved for demolition of a residential building with no proposed use;
2. A conditional use in the Downtown Residential 2 (DR2) District for a multi-family dwelling with more than eight (8) dwelling units;
3. A conditional use to allow outdoor recreation; and
4. A conditional use to construct two additional stories in Area F of the "Additional Heights Area Map" in MGO Section 28.071(2)(b).

The Campus Area Neighborhood Association's steering committee has completed its evaluation of the proposal and a steering committee report is forthcoming. I'll be sure to link to any new materials in next weekend's Alder Update, as well as meeting participation details. The Beacon, our day resource center for people who are experiencing homelessness at 615 E. Washington Ave., is holding their annual Beacon and Eggs event, which will be virtual this year, on Feb. 23 at 8:00am. As a member of The Beacon's Community Advisory Team, I encourage you learn more about the crucial services that they provide.

 

Proposed Zoning Code Changes

 

On Friday, I posted about a large set of ordinance changes related to zoning that was recently submitted by the Mayor, Alders Lemmer, Furman, and Evers and me. Read my post about how those could impact District 2 here.

 

 

12 N. Few Proposal Expected at UDC on Feb. 24

This proposal for 12 N. Few Street, currently the site of Scooter Therapy, would consist of 8 commercial spaces with 8 one-bedroom apartments It is expected be on the Feb. 24 Urban Design Commission agenda for an informational presentation. Formal consideration by UDC is expected later in April with Plan Commission consideration of the requested demolition permit sometime in May. The smaller addition to Scooter Therapy on the N. Few side is proposed for demolition and replacement with a larger addition.

 

The TLNA steering committee for the proposal submitted a steering committee report to TLNA Council this past week and TLNA Council subsequently voted to write a letter of support for the proposal. The proposal itself has not yet been posted on city websites, but should be next week as UDC prepares for the developer's informational presentation. In next weekend's Alder Update, I'll be sure to publish participation details as well as how to email comments to UDC. The Board of Public Works is scheduled to hold Public Hearings virtually on Wednesday, February 17, 2020, at 5:30 p.m.

Note: This item establishes an assessment district as part of the 2021 E. Gorham resurfacing project. It will serve East Gorham Street from Washburn Place to 200 ft. east of Washburn Place where sidewalk drainage and curb issues will be addressed as part of the larger 2021 E. Gorham resurfacing project. So far, this is the only assessment area in the entire project.
