Aug. 5 Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Neighborhood Meeting
On Thursday, August 5 starting at 7pm, I will host a virtual neighborhood meeting to kick off Tenney-Lapham's consideration of the proposed redevelopment of a portion of the 1100 block of E. Washington (between N. Ingersoll and N. Few Streets). The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra proposes to redevelop a portion of that block that includes the parcels currently owned by the Avenue Club and its parking lots. The Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Association will be forming a steering committee for the project after the Aug. 5 meeting. From what I understand, the development team will have initial building renderings and a more developed concept compared to their June 24 presentation.

12 N Few Proposal Passes Urban Design Commission
The redevelopment project proposed for 12 N. Few Street, the current site of the Scooter Therapy building, was approved by the Urban Design Commission at their Wednesday meeting. They unanimously found that the proposal met Urban Design District #8 requirements and guidelines. Plan Commission earlier asked that the UDC provide final approval for the proposal, so I anticipate that the requested demolition permit will now be back at Plan Commission in August. The current addition to the building on the N. Few St. side is proposed for demolition, as well as the back wall.
The proposed redevelopment consists of 8 ground floor commercial spaces with 8 one-bedroom apartments above. UDC expressed some concerns about how the building fits into the neighborhood, its use of garage doors for commercial spaces, the lack of vehicular parking, and the access and circulation for both commercial and residential units, but generally they complimented the aesthetics of the design. The site is zoned Commercial Corridor-Transitional which requires no onsite parking. The UDC application, staff reports, and public comments are posted here.
From Traffic Engineering: Vision Zero Survey
It has been just over a year since the Vision Zero initiative officially launched, and we have seen growth and setbacks when it comes to driving behaviors and safety on our roadways. We have an active survey for our Let's Talk Streets program, designed as a data gathering initiative to inform change in a variety of programs including Vision Zero, Compete Green Streets and our traffic calming and pedestrian/bicycle improvements.

Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood-wide Yard Sale, Saturday, Aug. 7
The tenth annual Tenney-Lapham neighborhood-wide yard sale is on Saturday, August 7, 8am-3pm. This is a great chance to hit over 35 yard sales right in the 'hood! Go to the Tenney Lapham Neighborhood Association's website for a printable map showing the addresses of the yard sale and here's a shortcut to the map. If viewing on a mobile device, use the Google Maps App to open the map. Click on the icon at an address to see what is being offered at that address. The map will be updated regularly until the day of the yard sale.
Save the Date: New Redevelopment Proposal - St John's Lutheran Church at 322 E. Washington
Neighborhood Meeting for the Proposal on Aug. 18
On August 18 at 7pm, I will host a virtual neighborhood meeting to get a first look at early concepts that St. John's Lutheran is considering for redeveloping their property at E. Washington and N. Hancock. Reportedly St. John's will have locations for worship and other services on the site, but plan to add housing. They are working with Urban Land Interests for the redevelopment proposal. As the date draws closer, I will publish a Zoom link and more information. James Madison Park District of Capitol Neighborhoods, Inc., will form a steering committee after the August 18 meeting to further evaluate the proposal and provide input to the development team.
Airport Commission Info Session on PFAS Remediation
The Airport Commission will host a community information session about the airport remediation process on Wednesday, August 4, at 5:30 pm via Zoom. Dane County residents can hear presentations from the airport director, Dane County Corporation Counsel, and staff from the Wisconsin 115th Fighter Wing. The commission will then take public comment after the presentations. Find the agenda and more information about the meeting here. Register to give public comment here. More Traffic Enforcement Activities on E. Washington
From MPD: OWI Enforcement - E Washington Ave
On Friday, 7/23/21, Officers from the Madison Police Department conducted an enhanced enforcement project on E Washington Ave. During the project officers were focussing on speeding and other hazardous violations.
A total of 26 stops were made during the project. 22 stops were for speeding, 1 for racing, 1 for restricted lane use (passing in the right parking lane), 1 for light motor vehicle noise control (revving engine) and 1 equipment violation.
Officers on the project also assisted when a vehicle caught fire shortly after officers had witnessed it revving its engine at a high rate. MFD assisted in putting the vehicle out after it became fully engulfed. Officers witnessed the violation but were in the process of stopping a separate vehicle for a similar violation near E Washington Ave and 4th St.
From MPD: Speed Enforcement - E Washington Ave
On Friday, 7/16/21, Officers from the Madison PD conducted an enhanced enforcement project on E Washington Ave. During this project officers continued to focus on speeding and other hazardous driving behaviors.
During the project officers conducted a total of 31 stops (30 for speeding and 1 for running a red light). All vehicles that were stopped for speeding were traveling at least 15 MPH over the posted limit (55 MPH). Highest recorded speed was 84 MPH.
Please slow down, buckle up and drive sober.
These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

Metro Fare Study
The Transportation Policy and Planning Board will be hearing public comment on the Metro fare study at its meeting on Monday.
Reindahl Park and Men's Shelter Updates
The City-County Homeless Issues Committee will be receiving staff updates on the Reindahl Park encampment and the men's shelter at its meeting on Monday.
Truth and Reconciliation and Housing
The Equal Opportunities Commission Executive Committee is discussing truth and reconciliation processes and housing issues at its meeting on Monday.
Recycling and Large Item Pick-Up and Alternative Emergency Sheltering
The Common Council Executive Committee will be receiving an update on recycling and large item pick-up and discussing an alternative emergency sheltering proposal at its meeting on Tuesday.
