Plan Commission

The Plan Commission meeting will take place on Monday, October 30, in virtual format at 5:30 PM. Agenda items include development related requests (none in District 3).

Board of Health for Madison and Dane County

The Board of Health for Madison and Dane County meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 1, in person at the Atrium Community Room at 2300 S. Park St., Rooms A, B, and C at 5:30 PM. Agenda items include amending the 2023 operating budget to fund a feasibility study of establishing an overdose prevention facility in Dane County, authorizing the acceptance of funds from the National Association of County & City Health Officials to support evaluation of harm reduction strategies, and authorizing the acceptance of funds from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for communicable disease control and prevention.

Public Information Sessions on the City Budget -- 10/30 and 11/1

The city’s budget for 2024 will be debated and adopted by the Common Council in November. In addition to public comment opportunities at Council meetings, there will be two community sessions on the budget. City Finance staff will provide background information on the city’s capital and operating budget process, including highlights of the 2024 executive budget. This is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about our city’s budget. Electronic copies of budget information can be found at https://www.cityofmadison.com/finance/budget/2024-budget

Virtual community sessions on the 2024 budget will be held on Monday, October 30 and Wednesday, November 1. Both meetings will start at 5:30 PM and end at 6:30 PM. These meetings will cover the same content and will be recorded.

Please register for the meetings using the links below. Registrants will be invited to participate in a question and answer session at the end of the meeting.

10/29 Update on Gun Violence in the District

See my previous blog post and original statement for the background on this. MPD is working hard and still asks the public for tips. If you have any information about this homicide/incident you can contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014 or online at p3tips.com. A member of Madison Area Crime Stoppers shared with me that folks can remain completely anonymous, and if your information leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.

I have an update on my efforts to schedule a public meeting about gun violence and the recent issues at Harmony. The in-person meeting will take place on Monday, November 20th at 6pm at the Steamfitters facility, 6103 Town Center Drive. My intended audience for this meeting is North Star neighborhood residents (though not limited), and residents of the Harmony and Grandview North in particular. My current plan is to have folks write down and submit their questions during the event. I will group questions and read them for speakers or for myself to answer.

I invited and am working with several speakers who will share information about actions taken so far in response to the recent violence at Harmony, data about local incidents of gun violence, and information about the root causes of gun violence and violence prevention measures that will inform this work. I’ll share a flyer with more details in a future blog post before the meeting so watch for that.

Stormwater Utility Vegetation Management Plan

Eastside Listening Session is Wednesday, November 1 at 5pm

Join the Stormwater Utility for a public listening session as part of development of the Stormwater Vegetation Management Plan. The East Side Listening Session is at Hawthorne Library, 2707 E Washington Avenue, Madison, WI 53704. Please register for this meeting at this link on Eventbrite so we can make sure we have enough chairs and tables. There is no fee or ticket required to attend.

This listening session will solicit feedback on big picture questions regarding vegetation goals and maintenance on existing stormwater utility land. These sessions will be interactive, with live polling on big picture questions, image mapping, and opportunities to identify what is working well, in addition to hearing any concerns you might have.
