Week of July 21, 2025: Public meetings for Madison Lakeway and Watershed Study, plus Atwoodfest!

posted

There are two big public meetings this week that you may be interested in.

Tonight (Monday) is a public meeting for the first phase of Madison Lakeway. While this phase isn’t in District 6, it’s still a big project that all neighbors ought to have a voice in.

  • Public Input Meeting - Madison LakeWay, Monday, July 21The community is invited to attend a virtual public meeting on the first phase of the Madison LakeWay! Join us on Monday, July 21 at 6:30 PM for a virtual public meeting to review the ongoing design development for the upcoming Madison LakeWay improvements. The project area is a 0.6-mile stretch of Lake Monona’s shoreline adjacent to John Nolen Drive. Community members are invited to review the progress and share input on proposed lakeshore features.

The second will be a review of a watershed study that impacts ALL of District 6. The city has a number of options to mitigate and control flooding within this area and also has opportunities for property owners to do their part with rain gardens and other tools.

Atwoodfest is this weekend!

I hope to see you on Saturday and Sunday for the 11th annual Atwoodfest organized by the SASY Neighborhood Association, Barrymore Theatre and Sector67. Reminder that Atwood Avenue will be closed to traffic from Saturday morning around 8am until Sunday evening.

Atwoodfest kicks off Saturday at noon with the Convergence. Neighbors, families and kids of all sizes gather at the four corners of the SASY neighborhood and parade to Atwoodfest along with members of the Handphibians and Otimo. I will be leading the Yahara contingent along with County Supervisor Yogesh Chawla. We’ll be forming up on Riverside Dr just south of Winnebago Ave at 11am.

If you’re closer to one of the other three starting points, you’re welcome to join there, or join up with one of the four processions en route:

  • Circle Park
  • Hawthorne Park
  • Bike path outside of Goodman Community Center

(The two park locations will have assorted creature masks and puppets for people to borrow and return at the end of the parade.)

  1. Meet at your favored site at 11am
  2. Start converging (parading) at about 11:35am
  3. Festival starts at noon!

More information about Convergence here.
