Until further notice, our counter service is closed to the public. The general public may still contact the Municipal Court office by mail, email, fax or phone. Office hours are Monday ‐ Friday from 8 a.m. ‐ 4:30 p.m.
No in-person court appearances are allowed until further notice. All court appearances are to be by mail, email, fax, or telephone. You must contact the court on or before your scheduled court date by mail, email, fax, or telephone. If you do not, you will be found guilty of the charge(s) in your ticket/citation/complaint.
You are required to give the court your current mailing address.
Payments can still be made by mail or online.

Welcome to the City of Madison Municipal Court
The City of Madison Municipal Court represents the judicial branch of government and provides a neutral setting for resolving alleged City ordinance violations. We provide friendly and efficient service to all court users, keeping in mind legal and ethical requirements.
The Municipal Court provides a neutral forum for hearing City Ordinance cases, where the penalty includes a forfeiture. The court handles approximately 26,000 cases per year. These are not criminal charges and defendants are not entitled to a free lawyer.
Common cases include:
- Animal control violations
- Building code
- Disorderly conduct
- First offense drunk driving
- Health code
- Underage alcohol
