Each Memorial Day, we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States, honoring their sacrifice with reflection, gratitude, and quiet reverence. We remember not only those who fell in battle, but also those who carried the weight of their service home and passed in the years that followed. At Forest Hill Cemetery, rows of simple headstones stand in silent testament to lives given in service. Flags placed beside the headstones ripple softly in the breeze, while the surrounding grounds lend a sense of calm dignity to the scene.

• Joint Campus Area Committee: The Joint Campus Area Committee meeting will take place on Thursday, May 28, at 4:45 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include an update on the Regent Street reconstruction.

Public Information Meetings (PIMs)

• Virtual Open House | District 16 Parks, Thursday, May 28, 2026: Madison Parks is holding a series of virtual public input sessions for the Southeast Park Development Plan process coinciding with the City Planning Division's Southeast Area Plan and mapping area. The meetings will include an overview of the planning effort's goals, a review of the neighborhood parks included, and an opportunity for area residents and park visitors to share their thoughts on future park improvements.
• Public Information Meeting: South Point Public Works Facility, Thursday, May 28, 2026: A public information meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m., May 28, 2026, via Zoom. Registration is required. This meeting is intended for the public to attend to learn more about the South Point Public Works Facility project.

Events

• Memorial Day Concerts at Forest Hill Cemetery (8 am) and State Capital (9:15 am)  The Madison Veterans Council is pleased to announce that, after six years, its Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will return to the Wisconsin State Capitol on Monday, May 25, 2026. The ceremony will honor those who died while serving in the U.S. military, as well as this year's Honor Roll of 256 Madison and Dane County veterans who have passed away since last Memorial Day. The VFW Post 1318 Band will begin a concert prelude at 9:15 a.m. near the West Washington Avenue side of the Capitol, and the formal ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. 
  The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will also hold an 8:00 a.m. ceremony at Union Rest in Madison's Forest Hill Cemetery, located at 1 Speedway Road, Madison, Wisconsin. The Forest Hill ceremony will be brief so attendees will have ample time to travel to the State Capitol for the start of the band concert. The public is invited to attend both ceremonies.
• Frank Lloyd Wright House Concert Tour - Monona Terrace, Wednesday, May 27, 2026: Grammy Award-winning cellist, singer, and composer Mike Block brings his dynamic solo show to Monona Terrace's Lecture Hall for an exclusive, free performance. 
• School Vaccination Clinic at Holtzman Center, Saturday, May 30, 2026: In partnership with SSM Health, GHC, UW-Health, and Madison Metropolitan School District, Public Health Madison & Dane County is offering free vaccines for school aged kids 5 and older.
• Summer Nights, Saturday, May 30, 2026: Summer Nights at Westmorland Park features and exciting family friendly line-up of entertainers and musical performers.
• Tribute Event at Oak Park Heights Parks for Michael Pressman on June 2nd at 5:00 pm
   The City of Madison, Madison Parks, and the Midvale Heights Community Association (MHCA) will present a special honor this spring to longtime MHCA neighborhood baseball commissioner Michael Pressman. Pressman is being honored for his 30 years of volunteer service teaching nearly 3,000 children about playing baseball, working together, and having fun. The recognition acknowledges how his efforts not only benefited the children who participated in the games but also contributed to the civic health of the entire community. 
  A civic recognition award will be delivered, and a rare tribute will be announced on the first day of the 2026 season for the Midvale Heights Community Association's Youth Baseball League.  District 11 Alder Bill Tishler, Madison Parks Superintendent Eric Knepp and MHCA President Joy Cardin will present the honor to Michael Pressman on Tuesday, June 2 at 5:00 p.m. at Oak Park Heights Park, 641 Hilltop Drive, Madison, 53711 prior to the opening pitch of the first game.  
  The community is invited and individuals and families who have participated in Midvale Heights youth baseball are encouraged to attend.
