Elvehjem Water Pipe Repairs:

The City of Madison Water Utility will be doing repair work on water mains in the Elvehjem Neighborhood. The project is estimated to begin on June 22nd. Residents may notice utility crews in the neighborhoods this week as they complete the preparation work and begin staging construction equipment. The contractor selected for the project is Fer-Pal. The map below shows which houses will be affected, the location of a new temporary 4 way stop, and where the water utility will be accessing water mains.

You can learn more about the project and find answers to frequently asked questions on the project webpage here

Impacts on Traffic:

Roads will generally stay open, but some traffic may be restricted at times. There will be small excavation areas that are fenced and marked (see map for locations). Street parking will not be allowed in the project area during construction. Madison Metro Bus service is not expected to be affected.

There will be a temporary 4-way stop placed at the intersection of Meadowlark Dr. and Woodvale Ln.

Temporary water pipes may be placed across driveways or roads. These crossings will be ramped up or buried to help maintain access.

Assessments:

There will be no assessments or residential fees charged for this project

Water Main flushing

The City of Madison Water utility will begin flushing watermains across the city starting today, Monday June 15th. (*Note: this is separate from the water main repairs happening in the Elvehjem Neighborhood*)

The city flushes water mains each year to remove sediment and mineral build up and help maintain the health of our water systems. During flushing, residents may notice a temporary decrease in water pressure and a discoloration of water. (The water utility recommends holding off on doing laundry or running the dishwasher until the evening if water main flushing is occurring in your neighborhood.

To stay up to date on water main flushing schedules, you can sign up for emails here. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Shayne Santi at (608) 261-9128.
