City Meetings
Note: This is not a complete list of meetings for this upcoming week. All meetings and their details can be found at the Meeting Schedule page.
Plan Commission
The Plan Commission meeting will take place on Monday, August 10, at 5:30 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include development-related requests (none in District 3).
Transportation Commission
The Transportation Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 12, at 5:00 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include item 7: plans and designs for the 2027 reconstruction of Milwaukee Street between Fair Oaks Avenue and West Corporate Drive – not in District 3, but immediately to the west and a core travel route for many District 3 residents. The updated street and crossing designs will improve multi-modal travel and safety through this corridor. Board of Park Commissioners
The Board of Park Commissioners meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 12, at 6:30 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include item 14, an informational presentation for Southeast Area Park Development plans. This item includes five neighborhood parks and mini parks in District 3. Public comments are invited, preferably by August 11th. Please see the below section of this blog post for more information.

Remember to Vote in the Fall Primary on Tuesday!
Tuesday is the Fall Primary Election! There will be elections for:
- Governor
- Lieutenant Governor
- Attorney General
- Secretary of State
- State Treasurer
- Congressional Representative for District 2
- Assembly Representative
- Dane County Sheriff
- Dane County Clerk of Circuit Court
If you haven't yet voted early, remember to make a plan to vote in person on Tuesday. Polls will be open from 7am until 8pm on election day.
You can check your voter registration status, find your polling place, and see what's on your ballot using this myvote.wi.gov webpage. I recommend this League of Women Voters resource for more information about candidates and issues.
Southeast Area & District 3 Park Development Plans Available for Public Comments
The Park Development Plans for the Neighborhood and Mini Parks in the Southeast Area, including for five parks in District 3, will be introduced to the Board of Park Commissioners during their meeting on Wednesday August 12, 2026 at 6:30pm (please see the above City Meetings section).
In preparation for that meeting, the Parks Division welcomes members of the public to review and provide additional comments on the draft final Park Development Plans. These plans are based on community feedback that was received during the Park Development Plan webinars and internal conversations Parks has had with our planning and operations staff. Consider reviewing plans and send any additional comments to bkowalski@cityofmadison.com.
These park development plans map out new paths, managed native meadows, and other improvements that Madison Parks intends to implement over the next ten-year period. Here are the preliminary draft plans for the five parks in District 3:
These plans will be formally adopted by the Board of Park Commissioners at a future meeting later this year. The Board of Park Commissioners has final approval authority, as these plans don't go to Common Council.
(Note: Page 78 of the Southeast Area Plan includes recommendation #7, stating that Madison Parks should also create a master plan for Hiestand Park. That park is a larger “community park", which has more space to plan and which serves more stakeholder communities. The development of that plan will happen separately, date TBD.)
Comments should be submitted to bkowalski@cityofmadison.com by August 11, 2026 to give staff time to take comments into consideration and make updates.
Seasonal Brush Collection Ending Soon
From the City Streets Division:
“Believe it or not, fall is around the corner. And that means the Streets Division's collection of sticks, branches, and tree limbs is coming to an end soon. Get the date when you should put your brush out for pickup by going to our brush collection website."
Soon enough I will be sharing information about fall yard waste/leaf collection. Stay tuned.

- Aug. 7 update from Chief Patterson: I continue to check in with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) daily. As of Friday night, there was no new information to share. I will keep doing these daily check-ins and share anything I am able with our community. DCI may also provide updates directly. - Video Message from Mayor Rhodes-Conway: This morning, the City of Madison opened the intersection of Williamson and Baldwin. Our goal was to clear the barricades, preserve personal belongings and memorial materials, and open the street up to normal traffic. [posted August 4, 2026]
- Williamson Street has Reopened: The recent closure of Williamson Street and South Baldwin Street was reopened at 9:00am on Tuesday, August 4. City barricades and signage have been removed from the area. Please be mindful of an increased pedestrian presence. [posted August 4, 2026]
- New Men's Shelter Open House, Monday, August 10: The new Men's Shelter at 1904 Bartillon Drive will begin serving our community on September 1st. Before that transition occurs, the City wants to invite the public to see the facility. An Open House is scheduled for Monday, August 10, 2026, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
- Goodman Pool 20th Anniversary Celebration, Friday, August 14: Join us as we celebrate 20 years of the Goodman Pool! We'll have music, games, prizes, food carts and fun! The first 500 people will receive a Goodman Pool yellow duck! Free leis while supplies last.
- Bird & Nature Adventures | Starkweather Creek Area, Saturday, August 15: Eken Parklands ~ Join Tara Daly and Friends of Starkweather Creek at the Eken Park Festival to learn about Starkweather Creek and the parks and natural areas right in the heart of east side Madison.
- Adapted Swim, Saturday, August 15: Open to all individuals with disabilities and their caregivers and families. Pre-registration is not required.
