East District Coffee With A Cop on Tuesday

From East District MPD:

Hello East Side!

The East District will be having a Coffee With A Cop event on Tuesday, August 19th, at 10 AM.

Rise Apartments (958 Rise Ln- at E. Washington and Fair Oaks) will be our hosts.  Thank you Rise for your generosity.

While we don't have a specific topic planned, we'll be ready to discuss what your East District Officers have been up to over the summer.  Think traffic, crime trends, and community engagement.

Please note that parking near the Rise might be extremely limited due to construction.  Please consider coming on foot/bike if you live nearby.  This location is also on the BRT route!”

Reminder: Hiestand Park Paint and Pack Event on Tuesday

As a reminder, City Planning is hosting two upcoming Paint and Pack events at Hiestand Park and Honeysuckle Park will area residents, particularly families, for a back-to-school event with a school supplies giveaway. These are related to Southeast Area Plan resident engagement.

Kids will be invited to help paint colorful stencil animals on the parks’ basketball courts! Residents who join are encouraged to share their ideas for how to make our community better.

Logistics for the event this Tuesday:

  • Where:  Hiestand Park basketball court
  • When:  Tuesday, August 19th at 5:30pm (rain date: August 20th)

The second one will be at the Honeysuckle Park basketball court next Tuesday, August 26th at 5:30pm (rain date: August 27th).

Madison Parks Calendar Photography Contest – Submit Photos Through 9/1

From Madison Parks:

Each year Madison Parks publishes a beautiful wall calendar using your winning photos taken in Madison parks. Photos meeting the requirements below may be submitted through Labor Day for consideration in the following year's calendar. Judging takes place in September, and winners are announced in the fall. We are looking for photo entries that include beautiful scenery along with people recreating and enjoying activities like hiking, snowshoeing, skateboarding, golfing and more. Wildlife photos will not score as high as people enjoying activities. Additionally, while Madison Parks offers some of the best lake views in town, the lakes are actually managed by Dane County and photos of such are not portraying Madison Parks. Winners receive one complimentary calendar per winning photo.”

Elvehjem Neighborhood Resource Fair on Saturday

From the Elvehjem Neighborhood Association, not in District 3 but nearby just across Cottage Grove Road:

“On August 23rd from 11AM-2PM the Elvehjem Neighborhood Association will be hosting our annual community resource fair! […]

This is a free event put on by volunteers through Madison's longest continuously operating neighborhood association in hopes to connect as many people in the community with the groups, non-profits, departments, people, and resources out there doing good work!
We will also be having this event again next year on August 22nd from 11-2PM so feel free to let me know if there are any groups you think we should reach out to!”
