Reger (George) Park History

This park was renamed from Oak Street Park in 1985 to honor the memory of George H. Reger (1911-1984), a prominent political and labor leader in the Madison Area.  Reger was one of the early organizers of the Dane County Democratic Party.  From 1952 to 1966 he served as an alder of the old Seventh Ward on Madison's east side.  He also served as Dane County Democratic Chair in 1962 and was elected President of the United Steelworkers, Local 1404, in the same year.  Reger was elected to the Dane County Board in 1972 and served until 1976.
