COMMISSION ON PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

The Commission on People with Disabilities, pursuant to City Ordinance 39.04, consists of 13 people: 1 Common Council member, and 12 citizen members. All members are residents of the City of Madison and are knowledgeable and sensitive to the service needs, rights and responsibilities of citizens with disabilities. First priority for membership is given to people with disabilities, family members, and advocates. One member must be a member of the Affirmative Action Commission, and one member must be a member of the Equal Opportunities Commission.

Responsibilities:
The CPD's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recommending policy to the Mayor, Common Council and Department of Civil Rights in all areas that affect people with disabilities and their families;
  • Studying and making recommendations to all City departments, committees and commissions on proposals to provide better access to facilities and services for people with disabilities and their families; and,
  • The Commission shall solicit comments and suggestions from citizens and organized groups regarding the concerns of citizens with disabilities.
