1. City Budget
Final city budget deliberations begin tonight, with meetings also scheduled tomorrow night and Thursday night. You can see the amendments that will be voted on here. I'm cosponsoring:
Operating Budget Amendment 2B and Capital Budget Amendment 2B: Adding three police staff positions and one squad car.
Capital Budget Amendment 11 - Vision Zero Traffic Safety. This public safety amendment proposes to fund safety improvements in our transportation system with a focus on our most dangerous intersections and corridors. One of the intersections rated most dangerous under Vision Zero is the intersection of Acewood Boulevard and Cottage Grove Road.
Capital Budget Amendment 9 - North Side Park Land Acquisition. This is an amendment introduced by Alder Abbas to preserve the wetland of Hartmeyer property. However, we've since received additional information from the Parks department with concerns about how this may conflict with the standard land acquisition process. Thus, I hope to get more clarification during the budget deliberations and agreement on how to move forward.
Additionally, I intend to support an ambulance for Fire Station 14. At this point, I intend to support the addition of the actual ambulance - Capital Budget Amendment 1.
However, the Operating Budget Amendment for the addition of ten firefighters proposes to be paid for with cuts that I cannot support, and I believe most will be unlikely to support, such as removing allocation for snow and ice removal on arterial shared paths, cuts to Pinney Library staffing, etc. With that in mind, I will work with Council colleagues and the Mayor's office to ensure the ten firefighters are supported in next year's budget if they are not approved in this year's budget.

2. New Task Force on Municipal Golf Webpage
This web page provides a jumping off point for staying up to date on the work of the Task Force, including meeting dates, times and locations. It also includes direct linking into the Legistar system to make it easier to follow the agendas, minutes, and attachments. Finally, there is the option to sign up for receiving email updates by clicking on the green button and emailing Parks@cityofmadison.com to get added to the distribution list. Please feel free to share this page and information with interested individuals and groups so that they can better connect to this important work.
3. Help build the Galaxy Park playground (Jackson Quarry Lane and Milky Way)
The City of Madison Parks Division is installing a playground at Galaxy Park and want your input.
The first opportunity for input from the neighborhood was a playground workshop held with two other neighborhoods on November 7, 2019 at Elvehjem Library. At this meeting City staff presented the Madison Parks playground input process, provided background on Madison's playgrounds, and sought input from the neighborhood on each individual park playground.

The second meeting will be held on January 21. At this meeting staff will present two playground concepts based on the feedback received at last week's workshop.

4. What Can You Put in the Recycling Cart?
America Recycles Day is November 15.
To honor America Recycles Day, take a moment to refresh your memory of Madison's recycling rules.
There are many tools available to help you and your household become better recyclers.
Residents can stop by either Streets Division office to receive a free magnet that shows the basics of recycling. The 3" x 5" magnets are perfect for the refrigerator of any house or apartment that could use a nudge to recycle a little better.
There is a simple one-page printable guide that also covers the basics. You could even use the free magnet to hold this sheet onto the fridge.
There is another printable guide available on the Streets Division's website. This guide can also be found on the lid of most new recycling carts issued by the Streets Division.
For the most detailed information about Madison's rules and opportunities, obtain a copy of the Recyclopedia. Digital copies are available on the Streets Division's website. Paper copies are available at Madison Public Libraries and can be mailed to residents upon request.
Pellitteri Waste Systems is the company that sorts the recycling collected by the Streets Division. You can watch a video that shows exactly how they do this hard work. The video will help folks understand why certain items – like clothes and hoses – do not belong in the recycling cart.
There is a smartphone app available from RecycleCoach. The app is available via all major app stores and their website. On social media, follow Recycle More Wisconsin. This is a statewide organization helping spread information on recycling more and recycling right.
There is also information on what can be placed into the recycling cart at the Streets Division's website, www.cityofmadison.com/recycling.
And finally, feel free to contact the Streets Division office for help. Residents who live east of South Park Street can call 608-246-4532 and residents west of South Park Street can call 608-266-4681. Office hours are Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm. 5. Water Utility Poll results available
The first round of the EVERY DROP MADISON poll has closed. Thank you to everyone who participated. Your input is helping guide Madison Water Utility as it plans for the next phase of water conservation and sustainability in Madison.
