Snow Plowing Update: December 30, 2025
Bottom Line
Today’s snow may disrupt your evening commute. Streets Division plows will be out through the night in response.
What’s the weather doing?
A light snow is underway and it is expected to last until the evening.
Current predictions show today’s event producing less than an inch of snow overall
Streets Division’s Response
Plows are out on the main thoroughfares, and they will be on them through the night to plow and salt them as needed.
The “main thoroughfares” are the roughly 800 miles of traffic lanes that make up the salt route network. These are the roads used by Madison Metro for their bus routes as well as other important roads through the city, such as the roads around hospitals, fire stations, and so on.
During the overnight hours, a fresh deployment of operators will be dispatched to apply sand as needed to hills, curves, and intersections in residential areas.
For Your Commute Today, 12/30
Stay alert and slow. While forecasts suggest this will be a relatively minor snow event for prepared Madisonians, you should not let your focus slip and nor should you become overconfident. Roads, paths, and sidewalks can still become slippery. Make good choices. Allow for extra travel time. Remain cautious and patient while traveling.
Looking Ahead
Forecasts suggest tomorrow (12/31) are shaping up to be very similar to what we have today – a small snow event arriving in the afternoon and maybe lingering through the early evening.
The Streets Division will be ready should this occur, of course, but you should also take the weather into account when considering your New Year’s Eve plans.
Monitoring the Roads
Streets Division staff will be monitoring the roads tonight. Operations will adjust as conditions require.
