Snow Plowing Update: January 19, 2026
Bottom Line:
High winds and drifting chances continue today. Roads remain snow-covered due to frigid temperatures. Streets Division plows will be on the roads throughout the day and night.
What’s the weather doing?
Temperatures are very cold, and chances of high wind gusts linger until the early afternoon.
What does the weather mean for the roads?
When pavement temperatures are below 20 degrees, salt is not effective at the rate spread by the Streets Division.
This leads to snow-covered main thoroughfares since salt cannot perform its chemical process.
The high winds may lead to blowing and drifting snow issues, particularly along open areas. The winds seem to be coming out of the west / northwest. The spots that could see some issues with the dry snow being blown across the roads are spots near the lakes (such as E. Johnson) and other roads near open fields (S. Pleasant View Rd and Sprecher Rd, for example).
Streets Division response today
Streets Division will have plows out all day and all through the night applying sand to areas that need it.
Since temperatures remain too cold to salt the main thoroughfares, sand will be spread on any spots along these roads that need attention as well.
Crews will be responding to any blowing or drifting issues as they develop, too.
Traveling today
As always, make good choices.
The main throughfares are not bare pavement curb-to-curb. For the most part, they remain in fair winter driving conditions though with tracks through the snow. Slip lanes, turn lanes, and intersection may still be snowy though, so please remain cautious and focused.
Low speed, low traffic areas that are not part of the salt route network of streets are snow-covered, and that is normal following snow events.
Be mindful of changing conditions, especially with the high winds. And remain slow and patient.
Monitoring Conditions
Streets Division staff will be monitoring the roads and the weather. Operations will adjust as conditions require.
