Did You Know?

Over the past year, Metro has replaced old farebox systems across our fleet

with a new digital contactless payment system. These upgrades were necessary because the old equipment had surpassed its useful lifespan and, in some cases, were not operational or failing.

Now, with these upgrades, you can tap to pay your fare with a credit or debit card right on the bus and receive the same multiple-ride discounts, including a 2-hour transfer and fare capping, as you did with our old fare system. You can also pick up a Fast Fare card, create an account, and load any dollar value amount to receive the same type of multiple-ride discounts on the go.

Since our old fare equipment was no longer reliable, we’re encouraging our customers to turn in any old fare magnetic strip cards and passes, and we’ll transfer your remaining balance over to a new Fast Fare card and account. Please make your exchanges, as we plan to phase them out permanently soon.

  • How To Exchange

Customers with any old 31-day pass, 10-ride, or 2-ride cards can bring them to Metro's Administration Office, or mail them to:

    Metro Transit Administration Office
    1245 E. Washington Ave., Ste. 201
    Madison, WI 53703

Be sure to include your contact information if you're mailing in your cards for exchange. We'll add the dollar value of your old fare items to your new Fast Fare card!
