Snow Plowing Update: February 27, 2026

posted

Bottom Line

Snow expected to return Saturday (2/28) morning and last through the day. Streets Division plows will be on the salt routes in response.

What's the weather doing?

Friday's warm temperatures will tumble overnight and snow is expected to begin sometime in morning, maybe around 8am.  The snow is expected to taper off around 5pm.

Accumulation is expected to be around an inch of snow, maybe closer to an inch and a half.

What's the Streets Division doing in response?

Streets Division crews will be hitting the salt routes when the snow begins. Crews will be plows and applying salt as needed to these main thoroughfares.

Crews will be on the routes throughout the day as needed by the storm.

What to expect from this storm

Be ready for snowy conditions throughout the day on Saturday, especially in residential areas that are not part of the salt route network.

While the first few flakes may melt on the roads thanks to the warm weather we have seen lately, as the storm lingers snow conditions could certainly develop.

Give yourself extra travel time. Be slow, patient, and safe. Overall, make good choices while making your way through Madison.

As a reminder, the Streets Division does not plow the low speed, low traffic residential areas until three or more inches of snow have accumulated on the roads and the storm is at or near its end. This storm is not expected to reach this threshold.

Monitoring Conditions

Streets Division staff will be monitoring the roads and the weather. Operations will adjust as conditions require.
