Urban Design Commission
The Urban Design Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 19, at 4:30 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include informational presentations on mixed-use building projects (none in District 3).
Business and Economic Resources Committee
The Business and Economic Resources Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 19, at 5:00 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include Item 2, a resolution amending the City's Operating Budget to spend a yet-unknown amount of money to support the Williamson Street businesses impacted by the encampment and occupation of the Williamson Street and Baldwin Street intersection. This item is sponsored by Alder Davy Mayer whose district includes the Williamson/Marquette neighborhood. The City's adopted 2026 Operating Budget is already extremely close to the State's Expenditure Restraint Incentive Program (ERIP) limit. New, unplanned spending increases the risk that actual General Fund (Operating Budget) spending in 2026 breaches the ERIP limit. Spending above that limit in 2026 would result in a loss of several million dollars in critical state aid funding.
Madison Parks Exploring a Public-Private Partnership Sports Complex at Northeast Park (Tancho Drive)
The City of Madison Parks Division wants to know: Is there a way to address our community's athletic facility needs without increasing the tax levy?
Madison Parks is exploring a public-private partnership to assist in addressing Madison's athletic facility needs. Madison residents looking for athletic field space know how difficult it can be to find multipurpose fields. For decades, the park system has lacked sufficient athletic field spaces, especially capable of supporting tournament play.
Within Madison, Northeast Park, 5501 Tancho Drive, may be an ideal location for a sports complex. Situated near Interstate 90 and State Highway 151, the park offers convenient regional access. It is a quick 13-minute drive from Dane County Regional Airport, and about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.

Safe Streets Madison Traffic Calming Program Information from Vision Zero Newsletter
City Traffic Engineering's latest quarterly Vizion Zero newsletter included an article with good background information about Safe Streets Madison, the City's program for making traffic calming and safety improvements. Here's the newsletter, see page 4.
“Have you ever noticed an uneven sidewalk or been frustrated by speeding on your street and wondered what can be done? The “Request a Safety Improvement" webpage allows you to report traffic safety concerns directly to City of Madison Traffic Engineering staff. Some reported problems – those with a limited scope, such as the addition of stop or yield signage – may be immediately addressed by City staff.
This is especially likely when the complaint location has a significant crash history and the specific improvement meets established national guidelines for implementation.
Reported problems that cannot be immediately addressed are added to the Safe Streets Madison candidate project list. Safe Streets Madison is a locally funded infrastructure improvement program that focuses on eliminating gaps in the pedestrian and bicycle networks and improving safety for all road users. Reported problems on the candidate list, as well as locations identified by crash data as high risk, are regularly scored by City staff. Twice per year, staff request the Transportation Commission approves the use of Safe Streets Madison funding to construct the highest scoring projects.
The Safe Streets Madison candidate list currently includes over 700 potential projects. With available staff and funding resources, City of Madison is able to construct between 40-50 Safe Streets Madison projects per year."
