Central District Blotter

Williamson Street Traffic Safety Project

May 17, 2013 12:45 PM

Thursday, TEST conducted a Pedestrian Safety Initiative at the intersection of Williamson St and S. Dickenson St. between 0800 and 1145. This intersection has been the subject of complaints from area residents and business owners due to a lack of motorist compliance yielding for pedestrians crossing Williamson St.

As a result of this Initiative 33 stops were conducted for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk which under S.S. 346.24(1) results in four (4) demerit Points on conviction and carries a fine of $245.50.

TEST utilized two (2) additional MPD officers on overtime through DOT Traffic Grant funding for this purpose. Additionally, we had one of the MPD Bike Ambassadors present for pedestrian education opportunities as well as acting as the pedestrian decoy.
