Meet MPD Property Room Clerk Shelby Starke

November 20, 2017 9:52 AM

My name is Shelby Starke and I've been with the Madison Police Department as a Property Clerk for almost three years. Part of my job involves storing all of the evidence and found property that the police department collects – which currently stands at about 130,000 items! We also work with Officers who need evidence checked out for court cases, or want items analyzed at the Wisconsin State Crime Lab.

I was born and raised in Madison, and before going off to college I spent my time earning my Black Belt from Karate America, and working at local companies in data entry and cashiering. While studying at UW-Platteville, I had an internship with the Winnebago County Coroner's Office in Rockford, Illinois where I assisted at crime scenes and autopsies. I graduated in 2014 with a Bachelors in Forensic Investigation, and soon after started working for MPD. Outside of work, I love to go camping and be out on the water in my kayak. Go Pack!
