Meet MPD Property Room Clerk Brad Pottinger

November 27, 2017 12:02 PM

My name is Brad Pottinger and I've been with the Property Room for almost 7 years.  I have been a member on the department's Civilian Advisory Council for about 6 years and have been fortunate enough to sit as the chair of that committee since 2016.  Prior to joining MPD, I worked in administrative support for a small police department outside of Fort Worth, Texas, in a role encompassing everything from evidence management, dispatcher, open records to Emergency Management Coordinator.

I am incredibly grateful to be a part of the team here at MPD.  The department is well known around the country for its personnel and practices, which is evident on a daily basis in our interactions with other employees, surrounding agencies and members of the public.  In the Property Room, our role in that reputation is to efficiently maintain the highest level of integrity, packaging standards, and security.  This can be highly stressful as we are responsible for the handling and storage of items ranging from drugs, currency, biological evidence and vehicles to a suspect or victim's personal property.  However, every day also has its rewarding moments.  One of my favorite aspects of the job is utilizing current technology and resources to track down an individual whose items have been turned in as found property without a known owner.  The reaction that we get when making a phone call or sending a Facebook message to someone who has given up on ever seeing their possessions again is well worth the effort.

If I'm not at work, you can usually find me in the kitchen as I enjoy sharing my culinary experience with others.  I also like doing anything technology related, DIY projects, getting injured trying to play sports, and most of all, spending time with my son.
