Community Outreach Blotter

Meet MPD/Journey Mental Health Crisis Worker Sarah Henrickson

December 20, 2017 1:22 PM

My name is Sarah Henrickson, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I have been a Crisis Worker with Journey Mental Health since 2000. In that role I have always collaborated with all Dane County law enforcement agencies in responding to individuals experiencing mental health crises. In February of 2016 I began working directly with the MPD Mental Health Officer team. Our work primarily involves outreach to community members who are struggling with mental health issues, with the goal of connecting them to services, addressing safety concerns, and preventing future crises and police calls for service from occurring.

I feel very fortunate to be a part of this amazing team, especially as MPD is a leader in the nationwide trend towards enhancing the collaboration between law enforcement and mental health. It is very important to me that we focus on assisting people with accessing needed treatment, diverting them from the criminal justice system, and helping them to feel safe and improve their quality of life.
