East District Blotter

Prevent Property Crime

November 8, 2018 3:53 PM

During the month of October, the East Police District experienced 24 burglaries, 32 theft from vehicles, and 16 stolen autos.  These numbers are above average for our District. The vast majority of these crimes could have been prevented. Simply put, we must remember to remove anything of value from our vehicles and lock the doors.  Many of our burglary and theft suspects have entered vehicles (as well as homes) by simply walking into open garages and unlocked doors.

As the weather gets colder, residents often try to warm up their vehicles by allowing the car to idle while unattended.   This may attract unwanted attention. We often see unattended and unlocked vehicles parked at convenience stores while the owner runs inside for a moment.  These situations create an opportunity for a thief to strike.  Please help us by hardening the target.
