East District Blotter

LaFollette High School Education Resource Officer

March 6, 2013 10:16 AM

I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself to the fine folks of the East side of Madison.

I grew up in O'Fallon, IL, which is located in southwestern Illinois, and attended O'Fallon Senior High School.  Immediately after graduating I continued my educational journey and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Cardinal Stritch University in Glendale, WI.

While at Cardinal Stritch University, I was blessed to be a member of the men's basketball team.  During that time I had the tremendous honor of being a part of a highly skilled team.  In my senior year we were fortunate enough to earn a trip to the NAIA national tournament in Idaho.  After completing my journey at Cardinal Stritch, I earned my Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix in Brookfield, WI.

For the past few years I've had the pleasure of working as a patrol officer in the West Police District.  Before becoming a police officer, I had various careers that allowed me to work closely with at-risk youth.  One of those experiences included working as a Crisis Intervention Social Worker at the Milwaukee Mental Health Complex in Milwaukee, WI.  This position allowed me to work with youth that were diagnosed with mental health disorders and on Delinquency, CHIPS, or JIPS petitions through the courts.  I was a member of a small team consisting of social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

My primary responsibility was to respond to schools, homes, and other places in the community to assess the mental health status of these youth and de escalate them when they were in crisis mode. I also introduced the youth and their families to formal and informal community resources that helped to provide them the necessary tools to successfully maintain stable lifestyles.  This was a richly rewarding positiLaFollette High School Education Resource Officeron, as it allowed me to closely interact with at-risk youth and build positive relationships with them and their families.

Prior to my position as a Crisis Intervention Social Worker, I was a teacher of seventh and third-grade students in the Milwaukee Public School system.  I taught at HI-Mount Elementary School and Benjamin Carson Academy.  I am grateful for this experience, because it afforded me the opportunity to meet and collaborate with exceptional educators and invested students and parents.

During my spare time, I enjoy weight training, watching movies, traveling, and coaching my two sons' basketball and football teams.  I live by the motto "Embrace each and every day and value your family and friendships, because you never know if today will be your last."

I look forward to meeting those in the East District that I have not yet had the opportunity to become acquainted with.  For those of you that I have already met, I look forward to working with and seeing you again.

Lastly, if ever you find yourself in the LaFollette High School area, please feel free to stop in.
