Door to Door Scams

May 29, 2014 12:36 PM

With warmer temperatures, Madison may see an increase in home improvement scams and we need your help in stopping them.

In 2013, one of the top scams reported was a "repair person" going door to door and offering to do repairs on homes or driveways.  These were always unsolicited visits where the "repair person" asked to inspect a home and then reported damage that was hard or impossible to see – "damage" to roofs, chimneys, air ducts, etc.  The scammer provided official looking business documents and would even provide a repair report that the home owner didn't ask for.  Do not entertain individuals like this and never hesitate to call for a patrol officer if you have any concerns over the legitimacy of a person going door to door.

Anyone wanting to solicit to provide a service door to door must register with the City of Madison and must carry the permit with them.

Stay safe!
