Accessible Parking

If you have a valid, state-issued "Parking for people with disabilities" hangtag or license plate, you can park in:

  • Designated accessible parking spaces in all City lots and City parking garages. Standard fees apply. 
  • State Street Capitol Garage. 
  • Accessible parking spaces on streets
  • A metered space with a time limit of 30 minutes or more (for longer than the time limit) without getting a ticket.

Accessible Parking in Lots

A "Parking for people with disabilities" hangtag or license plate enables people with disabilities to park in designated accessible parking spaces. 

By law, parking lots must have at least one accessible parking space for every twenty-five parking spaces.  At least one of every six accessible parking spaces must be a van accessible space.  If you have concerns about a  parking lot or an authorized vehicle parked in an accessible space, please contact the Madison Parking Enforcement at 608-266-4622 or parkingenforcement@cityofmadison.com 

Accessible Parking for Housing

The Fair Housing Act covers accommodations for parking.  If you have a mobility impairment, you may request a reserved parking space near the entrance to the building.  Property owners cannot charge additional fees for parking accommodations.  For more information, see the Fair Housing Center for Rights and Research, Right to an Accessible Parking Space fact sheet.
