Wedding in the Park
This weekend I ran past a wedding in Yahara Place Park, just as the couple was exchanging their vows. As I watched their celebration, I was reminded of the day almost exactly 4 years ago when my wife and I married each other in the same park. To me, this is a small part of what makes Madison such a great place to live. Our civic pride is exemplified in how we maintain and connect with nature and our communities through our parks. If you want to help contribute to our parks, consider attending or volunteering for a Parks Alive event near you. Parks Alive is a great way to experience Madison parks. And congratulations to M and A, your ceremony looked beautiful.
Edgewater Updates
The Edgewater hotel has given me 30 day notice for their intent to file their paperwork for the redevelopment/updates. If you haven't seen already, the slides and a recording are available here. I believe given the timing that they will be on the agenda for the 7/29/2026 UDC meeting and the 8/24/2026 Landmarks meeting, but I will know for certain after the paperwork is finalized.
Gilman Street Reconstruction
There is a lot of work happening on the 400 block of W Gilman this year related to utility upgrades and redevelopments. There are multiple projects on it this spring through fall, the first of which is an MG&E electrical project which in turn will serve and lead into the two development projects that will be taking place on this block at 411 W Gilman and 450 W Gilman. As part of the 411 W Gilman development project, a sewer upgrade will take place that is planned to run from that site down to the intersection with University Ave. That portion of the work is currently scheduled for this fall. I'm working with staff to make sure that Gilman remains clear for those currently living and working there.
