Snow Plowing Update: March 17, 2026

posted

Bottom Line

More snow tonight as clean-up from the blizzard continues. Snow emergency parking remains in effect until 7:00am 3/18/26. Expect snowy travels overnight leading to a slower morning commute.

Snow Emergency Continues Tonight

To help with clean-up operations tonight, the snow emergency will continue this evening.  This means vehicles parked on the street overnight must again follow alternate side parking rules throughout the entire city to assist with the continued snowplowing operations.

Response to Tonight's Snow

Snow is expected to start sometime late this evening and last until around 5am or thereabouts. Overall accumulation is expected to be around one inch of snow.

When the snow begins, the Streets Division will have staff dispatched to the salt route network of main thoroughfares. Crews will be plowing and applying salt as needed.

What to Expect for Your Commute Tuesday Night & Wednesday Morning

The fresh snow should slow you down.  Make good choices and be patient and safe. Plan on needing extra travel time to arrive at your destinations on time.

You should expect to encounter snowy roads if you venture out during the night and Wednesday morning.

The salt routes will be patrolled as per usual in response to winter storms, but keep in mind that during active snowstorms they will still have snow on them.

The low speed, low traffic residential areas will receive a fresh layer of snow by the morning as well.

Temperatures will rise throughout the day, and travel conditions should improve throughout the day as the snow melts.

Blizzard Conditions Response Operations Roundup

Yesterday's citywide snowplowing operations began at 7:00am. The citywide plowing was completed by around 9:30pm.

Following that initial plowing, crews began getting snow pushed back closer to the curb in places that needed it, like if a spot was blocked by a parked car during the first pass and other areas of need.

During the overnight hours of Monday into Tuesday, crews worked on plowing back snow during the alternate side parking hours with a particular focus on the narrow streets within the snow emergency zone

And on Tuesday during the day, crews continued the snow work, applying sand for traction where needed in residential areas, getting snow pushed back along roads, clearing school crosswalks, plowing bus stops and paths.  And other staff also caught up on the trash & recycling pickup that was postponed due to the severe weather on Monday.

Monitoring Conditions

Streets Division staff will be keeping an eye on the storm arriving tonight. Operations will adjust as conditions require.
