March 16, 2026: All Streets to be Plowed Starting at 7:00am
All streets will be plowed starting at 7am. Travel today will be treacherous today due to blizzard conditions. Please stay off the roads unless your travel is absolutely necessary.
There will be no trash, recycling, or large item collection today as crews will be needed to help with snowplowing operations. Drop-off sites will be closed.
Please choose off-street parking today if you can.
Expect a slower citywide plowing operation. With the ongoing blizzard conditions and heavy snow, it will take plows longer to complete their work. Your patience is appreciated.
Information about Sunday's Response
Streets Division plows first hit the salt routes at 2:00pm on Sunday. Crews have been plowing and salting the main thoroughfares as needed through the afternoon and all through the night.
Details about the Response Today
Starting at 7am when the midnight shift changes over to the day shift, crews will continue plowing and applying salt as needed to the main thoroughfares just as they did through the night.
Crews will also begin plowing all streets throughout the City of Madison, including the residential areas.
Heavy equipment contractors will join the plowing operation later today for additional help in getting the snow pushed back from the road to the curb.
Due to the severity of this storm, we fully expect this citywide plowing to take longer than the usual 12 to 14 hours to complete.
Plowing operations will begin at 7am, but the storm will still be ongoing at that time. How much snow we will get after 7am remains to be seen. Forecasts are showing some variability.
No Trash & Recycling Pickup; Drop-off Sites Closed
Do not place your trash and recycling carts out for pickup. There is no collection today (3/16). Collection will occur on 3/17/26.
Drop-off sites are closed today. They will reopen for normal winter hours on 3/17.
Blizzard Conditions; Travel is Not Advised
High winds plus heavy snow will make travel hazardous. Visibility will be poor. Roads are snow-covered and difficult to use, including the main thoroughfares.
Please make good choices and avoid unnecessary travel throughout the day until conditions calm.
If you absolutely must travel today, exercise extreme care.
Future Updates
Streets Division staff will continue to monitor the roads and the weather.
Additional updates will be provided as the storm response continues.
