Winter Weather Riding

Updated: March 17, 2026, at 5:00 a.m.

Bus service will resume normal weekday operating schedules today.

Our ground crews will continue clearing snow and ice from bus stops throughout the region. If you encounter a bus stop that remains covered with snow or ice, please submit a Request a Bus Stop Snow Removal report so our team can respond quickly. Crews will address any missed stops by clearing the area and applying salt to help improve conditions.

Please use caution when walking on sidewalks and around bus stops, as surfaces may still be slippery. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our teams continue working to make bus stops safe and passable for everyone.

Drivers maintain schedules as conditions allow.

Safety Winter Travel Reminders

Keep the following in mind when traveling during winter weather.

  • Safety First

During extreme winter conditions, the safest choice is to stay where you are. If you need to travel, taking the bus is often your best option. In emergencies, dial 911 on your mobile phone, or ask a Metro Transit driver for help if you're on the bus.
  • Plan Extra Time For Your Commute

Buses will likely fall behind schedule during winter weather conditions. Metro recommends taking an earlier trip and planning extra time for the commute to make sure you arrive on time at your destination. Be assured that your driver is doing everything possible to stay on schedule while maintaining safety.

  • Track Your Bus

Use Metro's Bus Tracker to track your bus and see real-time arrival information before heading out, limiting your time outdoors in extreme cold. You can also contact Metro Transit's Customer Service at (608) 266-4466 for updates.

  • Be Prepared

Service may be disrupted during severe weather. Riders are encouraged to dress warmly, carry a flashlight, fully charge their mobile phone, and be prepared for longer wait and travel times. Sign up to receive Metro Service Alerts, follow us on our social media platforms, and check our website for service updates.

  • Boarding & Riding Tips

    • Wait for your bus by a driveway or corner that has been cleared of snow and ice.
    • For your safety, avoid standing in deep snow or on top of snow banks.
    • If your bus stop is located on a steep hill, wait at the next closest stop at the top or bottom of the hill.
    • Use a flashlight to signal your driver that you are waiting at your stop.
    • Stand clear of bus mirrors and the curb or platform edge until the bus comes to a complete stop.
    • Please hold onto the handrails and watch your step—floors may be slippery.
    • Drivers may drop off at an alternative location for your safety.
