Trade In Your Old Metro Cards & Passes

Make your ride easier and more convenient with Metro Transit’s Fast Fare Smart Card.

If you’re still using an old magnetic strip card or pass, now’s the perfect time to transfer your balance and make the switch!

How To Exchange

Bring your old 31-day pass, 10-ride, or 2-ride card to Metro's Administration Office, or mail them to:

Metro Transit Administration Office
1245 E. Washington Ave., Ste. 201
Madison, WI 53703

Be sure to include your contact information if you're mailing in your cards for exchange.

We'll add the dollar value of your old fare items to your new Fast Fare card!

Why Switch?

Old magnetic strip cards or passes are no longer accepted on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) platforms, and Metro will soon stop issuing paper transfers.

These old forms of payment will be phased out system-wide later this year.

Transfer your remaining balance to a Fast Fare Smart Card and enjoy:

  • Easy tap-and-ride payment with contactless readers
  • Multiple ride discounts, including 2-hour transfers
  • Online accounts with reloadable Fast Fare Smart Cards
  • Pay-as-you-go with fare capping technology
