Community Engagement & Public Participation

Racial Equity & Social Justice Initiative

The mission of the City's Racial Equity & Social Justice Initiative (RESJI) is to establish racial equity and social justice as core principles in all decisions, policies and functions of the City of Madison.

RESJI's Community Connections Action Team created the Public Participation Resource Guide, which contains information on how to bring authenticity to this work, how to center racial equity and inclusion, and how to develop a  public participation plan. The guide sets to accomplish three main goals:

  • to elevate the role of public participation at the City of Madison
  • to develop a shared approach and set of values for community engagement
  • to help agencies center racial equity and inclusion when planning for public participation and when developing projects, programs, and policies

Language Access Program

The City of Madison Language Access Program provides access to City services for people whose primary language is not English. The program is committed to improving accessibility for all members of the public.

The City’s Language Access Plan informs City of Madison staff, leaders, elected officials, and contracted vendors on policies, procedures, and practices for meaningful access to City services.
