Project Information

Project Overview

This project will replace the existing 6" sanitary main within the sanitary easement behind 131, 135, 139, and 143 Glenway Street. The existing pipe was lined in 2015, but the lining is currently delaminating and requires frequent maintenance. The existing pipe will be replaced with an 8" sanitary main.

To minimize excavation within the easement, the pipe will be replaced via pipe burst. Pipe bursting is a trenchless pipe replacement method that does not require an open cut along the entire length of the pipe. Instead, pipe bursting uses launching and receiving pits at either end of the pipe. A pipe bursting tool is pulled through the existing pipe and the bursting head breaks the existing pipe apart as it goes. The new pipe is pulled into place behind the bursting head.

Removing the existing liner and installing a new liner was considered, but it was determined that this method would not be feasible due to the small size of the pipe.
