Below are questions that have been asked about BRT construction.
What is this meeting?
This is a meeting to learn more about construction projects that have started or are about to start as a result of Metro’s future Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
Metro’s BRT system is expected to go online in 2024.
I thought BRT started in June of this year. Which is it?
This is different.
Metro is completely updating all of its routes in June. Route updates are designed to reduce transfers, make the system easier to use AND get the system ready for BRT. This complete route redesign goes into effect on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
I see Route A starts in June of this year. I thought this was a BRT route.
Route A will start as a regular Metro route in June of 2023.
It will travel on the same streets as the upcoming BRT system, BUT will operate as a regular route.
Route A will become a BRT line in 2024 when construction is complete.
Is this a public hearing?
No. This is an informational meeting. Staff will provide information on construction projects that have started on East Washington Ave., Anderson St. and Mendota St.
People attending the meeting are welcome to ask questions, but this is not a public hearing on the project.

Yes. A meeting that focused on west side construction was held on March 14, 2023.
What is BRT?
Bus rapid transit (BRT) is a frequent, faster, and more reliable bus system that uses larger buses to transport more riders. BRT’s features include frequent all-day service and direct routes with fewer stops.
It utilizes special traffic signals to help buses get through intersections faster, dedicated bus lanes, and stations with off-board fare payment kiosks.
BRT Specific Frequently Asked Questions
Will it cost more to ride on the BRT system?
No. There are no plans to increase fares on the BRT. Fares on the BRT will be exactly the same as fares on all other Metro routes.
